Why a checklist

An incomplete Malt profile is an invisible profile

Malt ranks profiles by relevance and quality. Every empty or poorly filled field is one less signal for the algorithm, and one more reason for the client to move on to the next freelancer. The problem: without a precise list, you never know what's missing.

You see everything that's missing

The 10 points that matter to get found and picked, checked in a single analysis.

You know where to start

Parts to fix come first, with a score out of 100 to track your progress.

You fix without searching

Each error takes you to the right place on your profile, with a tip to fix it.

How it works

How to optimize your Malt profile, point by point

An effective Malt profile doesn't depend on one detail, but on a series of small, well-filled points. Here's how to handle each of them, in order of impact.

Start with what clients see in search results

In a Malt search, clients only see your photo, name, title, rate and key skills. That's where it all happens: if they don't click, the rest of your profile doesn't matter.

  • Your full name: a first and last name builds more trust than an initial. Check the display option in your settings.
  • Your title: 35 to 50 characters, with your job and 1 or 2 keywords. No slogans.
  • Your rate: shown next to your title, it helps clients picture working with you.

Show that you're active

Malt promotes available, responsive freelancers. Two simple settings make the difference:

  1. Confirm your availability regularly, even when nothing changed.
  2. Reply fast to new messages. Install the Malt app and keep a template reply ready to adapt.

The right habit

Clients often contact several freelancers at once. Replying first often means landing the project.

Give the algorithm something to work with

Once clients have clicked, your profile has to reassure them. And the algorithm reads everything to decide which searches to show you in.

  • Skills: aim for around thirty skills, including 5 key skills echoing the words of your title.
  • Description: 1,000 to 2,000 characters, with a hook, your services, proof and an invitation to contact you.
  • Experience: for each one, a few lines of description and 5 skills.

Prove what you can do

  • Portfolio: at least 3 items. Well-known client logos, a visual summing up your offer, and 2 or 3 projects with a title stating the result.
  • Recommendations: ask 3 or 4 past clients or colleagues, and ask for a review after each Malt project.

Check, fix, repeat

Going through all this by hand takes time, and something always gets forgotten. That's exactly what the OptiMalt checklist does: it checks these 10 points on your page, gives you a score and tells you what to fix first.
